More than 200 people attended a special flag-raising ceremony held yesterday outside a major revolutionary site in Jing’an District to celebrate National Day. The event started at 8:30am in front of the memorial site of the Party’s Second National Congress, where the first Party constitution was drafted nearly a century ago. Today, the memorial boasts China’s first Party constitution library.

China's trade structure has further improved as the country's service trade deficit continued to narrow in the first eight months of this year, data from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) showed Thursday. During the period, China reported a deficit of 515.62 billion yuan ($75.71 billion) in service trade, down 50.6 percent, or 527.52 billion yuan from a year ago, the ministry said.

China's purchasing managers index figures continued to rise in September, showing that the country's economy is in full recovery, experts said on Wednesday. "The upcoming National Day holiday may bring certain seasonal factors. However, the recovery trend of the economy is real, and the unbalanced situation of the economy has improved," said Guo Yongbin, an analyst with Everbright Securities.

The China National Space Administration released mid-flight images of Mars probe Tianwen-1 as the country's National Day coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival on Thursday. Tianwen-1 reports safety to the motherland and sends its best birthday wishes, said the CNSA in a press release.

An estimated 563,000 passengers were expected to board trains in Shanghai on Thursday, the first day of the National Day holiday and also the Mid-Autumn Festival, according to China Railway Shanghai Group. The figure is close to the daily record high which was 596,000 on October 1 last year.

Tianyu Mansion, the city’s tallest Ming and Qing dynasty-style building at the Yuyuan Garden Malls, reopened to the public on Thursday after a major renovation. The six-story building on Jiujiaochang Road, a former military drill ground in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is now the Yuyuan Department Store, featuring stores of famous Shanghai brands such as the White Rabbit candy, First Asia jewelry, Feiyue and Warrior shoes and skincare brand Pechoin.

Chinese internet search giant Baidu Inc announced on Wednesday its smart living group has entered into definitive agreements with CPE, Baidu Capital and IDG Capital for Series A financing at a post-money valuation of approximately 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion).
