LHASA -- Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region made further progress in transportation infrastructure development in 2022, bringing the total length of roads open to traffic to 121,400 km, the regional transportation authority said on Friday. In 2022, the plateau region invested almost 16.39 billion yuan (about $2.35 billion) in fixed assets for road transportation.

The China Academy of Space Technology has developed and successfully launched a total of 400 spacecraft with its Tianhui 6 twin satellites sent into space on Friday morning. The two satellites were launched onboard a Long March 4C carrier rocket and will be used for geographic mapping, land resource survey, and scientific experiments, among others.

According to the national plan, a more advanced bullet train, the CR450 — with a top operating speed of 400 kilometers per hour and an experimental speed of up to 450 km/h — will soon be unveiled, said Zhao Hongwei, chief researcher of the China Academy of Railway Sciences and a member of 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Domestic experts and scholars gathered in Qingdao, Shandong province on Saturday to call for increasing study of China's marine culture and the promotion of greater ocean awareness among the public. The China Marine Culture Research and Development Seminar brought together over 40 experts and scholars from across the country to discuss new situations, topics and tasks facing the study of China's marine culture.

The forest coverage rate in China has reached about 24 percent, with 231 million hectares of forests. And 265 million hectares of grassland cover about 50 percent of the country's land areas, according to a report released by the National Afforestation Committee on Sunday. The day marks the 45th National Tree Planting Day.

A stranded dolphin spotted on Friday in South China's Hainan province was released back into the sea after a three-hour rescue operation, according to the local fire department. The dolphin was found stranded in the shallow water near a pier in Changjiang Li Autonomous County at around 1 p.m. on Friday. Staff from the county's fire department and local professional marine rescuers arrived soon and moved the dolphin to the shore.

China placed two Earth-observation satellites in space on Friday morning, according to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. The State-owned space giant said the Tianhui 6A and 6B satellites were transported to orbit by a Long March 4C rocket that blasted off at 6:41 am from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi province.
