China will make continuous improvements in sectors from housing to medical care this year, according to a government work report submitted Sunday to the national legislature for deliberation. The country will improve the housing support system, support people in buying their first homes or improving their housing situation, and help resolve the housing problems of new urban residents and young people, the report said.

In the city of Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, 300 captive-bred Chinese sturgeon, along with other rare fish, were released into the longest river in the country. It marked the first time the first-class state-protected animal had been released in the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River. Some 4,000 mullets, a species under second-class state protection, were released at the same time.

A hybrid light rail train—mainly powered by hydrogen fuel cells—made its debut on Thursday in Baoding, Hebei province, after it was completed by a local company. As a new generation of light rail train, it's equipped with fully automatic driving function, with a maximum speed reaching 80 kilometers per hour, according to the train's producer Hebei Jingche Rail Transit Vehicle Equipment Co.
