Economic and trade ties between China and countries along the Belt and Road have grown significantly over the past decade, a commerce official said on Thursday. China's trade in goods with Belt and Road countries doubled from $1.04 trillion in 2013 to $2.07 trillion in 2022, with an average annual growth rate of 8 percent, Chen Chunjiang, assistant minister of commerce, said at a news conference.

The number of Chinese netizens surpassed 1.06 billion as of the end of last year, 35.49 million more than in December 2021, according to a report released by the China Internet Network Information Center on Thursday. Of the total, more than 1 billion are short-video users, meaning this format has become more involved in people's daily lives and enriched other industries, including livestreaming, e-commerce, education and tourism.

Dalian Metro Line 5, the first cross-sea subway line in Northeast China, started a trial run on Wednesday in Dalian, Liaoning province. With a total length of 24.48 kilometers and 18 stops, the north-south line, which is the sixth metro line of the port city, connects two of its major urban functional areas.

Earlier last month, the first whole-journey round-trip freight train on the Lancang-Mekong Express Line of the railway departed from Kunming, Yunnan province, passed through Vientiane, Laos, and arrived in Bangkok, Thailand. It carried 286 metric tons of fresh vegetables in 19 cold-chain containers from China and brought back fruit from Thailand, such as longan and durian.

Lhasa in the Tibet autonomous region witnessed a rebound in tourism during the seven-day Tibetan Losar New Year holiday, and visitors arrived to enjoy local culture. During the holiday from Feb 20 to 26, the city received more than 261,000 domestic and overseas tourists, an increase of 18 percent year-on-year, Lhasa Daily reported.

Tian Sheng, an inheritor of the tradition of Jiaonan New Year prints, was pleased to find himself surrounded by young visitors admiring his exquisite creations at a recent exhibition. "In recent years, we have incorporated some of the elements of Jiaonan New Year prints in our products, and they have become instant hits," he said, picking up a porcelain tea set decorated with vivid scenes of planting and harvesting.

Li Furong said she has developed deep feelings for Benin after serving as a medical aid worker in the western African nation three times over the last two decades. "Many people there have become my friends," said Li, head of the 26th Chinese medical team sent to Benin. The group left Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Aug 3 for an 18-month stint in the country.

Chongqing - The newly-established Environmental Resources Sector of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has enhanced its ability to perform environmental resource-related duties. Yu Guodong, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and the director of the Chongqing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, believes that an emerging sector should perform new tasks. He also hopes to advocate with other members of the Environmental Resources Sector for the construction of ecological civilization in the future.
