China's island province of Hainan has become a hot destination for tourists across the country during the National Day holiday. They are swarming to the island not just for the sunshine and beaches but also for the duty-free shopping.

Chinese card payment giant China UnionPay saw its online transactions go up during the first three days of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. China UnionPay's online payments during the Oct. 1-Oct. 3 period reached 921.5 billion yuan (about 135.31 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 9.6 percent year on year.

Chinese entrepreneurs reported improvements in the business climate and profitability during the third quarter (Q3) of the year, the central bank found in a survey. The Business Climate Index, an indicator of entrepreneurs' sentiment toward the overall operating conditions of their enterprises, came in at 49.4 percent in Q3, according to a report by the People's Bank of China.

Scotland-based Baillie Gifford's decision to set up a full-fledged office in China confirms that the country's opening-up policy has boosted its confidence in the local market's future prospects, market observers said. Baillie Gifford announced the opening of its Shanghai office on Wednesday. It is the 112-year-old company's first physical office on the Chinese mainland.

China's tourism recovery continues to gather speed, with destinations closer to home, road trips and private customized tours becoming main choices for tourists, according to a Sunday report from Xinhua.

The monthslong COVID-19 pandemic has made China's millennial generation even more health-conscious, giving lifestyle-related businesses a much-needed shot in the arm. Pursuit of good health, a hallmark of Chinese culture for a long time, is getting a twist of innovation, spawning a multibillion-dollar industry, as upwardly mobile, lifestyle-conscious but stressed and overworked millennial consumers jump on China's tech-enhanced wellness bandwagon.

Home prices in 100 major Chinese cities rose in the first eight months, a report by the E-house China R&D Institute showed. Average new home prices in the cities increased 10.7 percent year on year to 15,726 yuan (about 2,309.25 U.S. dollars) in the January-August period, rebounding from a decline of five consecutive months.
