China will play a key role in supporting global economic recovery this year, economists said, since the country's economic rebound is set to continue, which will help stabilize international supply chains.
Though China's foreign trade stabilized during the second quarter, exporters will have to put in extra efforts to tap global markets and boost domestic consumption in the second half of this year to circumvent rising external pressure, experts said.
"Globalization remains irreversible historical trend, it is the only way to take forward human society," Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily said in the Global Think Tank Webinar -"Stronger together: Global recovery from COVID-19" in Beijing on July 29, 2020.
China remains attractive to foreign companies, as an overwhelming majority of them questioned in a survey have expressed a desire to continue to invest and operate in the country, a commerce official said on Thursday.
Beijing saw its exports rise 2.9 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year in a complex global economy, according to Beijing customs. The total foreign trade of the capital was 1.13 trillion yuan ($161.4 billion) for the first half, down 18.7 percent year-on-year. Imports dropped 23.3 percent to 880.55 billion yuan, while exports rose 2.9 percent to 248.15 billion yuan.

Essilor Group signed a strategic partnership agreement with Chinese internet giant Tencent this week in Shenzhen, as the French ophthalmic optics company moves to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market and push forward with digital transformation in the country.
